Bike Racing: A Tough Sport

Bike racing is one of the Olympic sports. Many people are not really aware of that. It is a sport which involves a lot of determination from the racer and continuous training. Professional bicycle riders have an incredible physical condition which is obtained through tough workout sessions. This is a sport which doesn’t make any compromise. If you are not trained, you should not be competing.

All types of bicycles are involved in bike racing. Racers say that this is a sport in which the individual and the bike are one and the same. They support each other, comfort each other and keep each other in the race. Each of the participants would confess that there is only one bike for them. That means that only one particular bicycle is able to offer them that perfect balance between comfort and efficiency.

There are several types of bike races organized all over the world. Here are just some of the most well known: road races, cyclo-cross, mountain bike racing, track cycling, BMX races, bike trials, cycle speedway, motor-paced racing and Keirin races. In many situations the name says it all. Road races can last one day or they can last several days like Tour de France. It is said to be the one race that is testing your endurance not only physically but also mentally.

Cyclo-cross involves several types of terrains during one race. The bikers sometimes need to pick up their bicycles and carry them to go over steep hills for example. They will ride though the woods, on paved streets, on grass and in the hills. It generally takes place during the autumn and fall.

No matter the type, bike racing is really a tough sport that will drain you of your powers should you take it seriously.
